The approach of change resistance management has been effective at Sun Country, the company has been able to move from a single plane company to multibillion companies, and on the other hand, the company was able to become pro fitable after the 2011 disaster after the changes implemented by the managers were managed effectively. Canadian Autonomy ââ¬â Government Essay Free Online Research Papers Canadian Autonomy was the product of the evolution of Canadian Nationalism and the development of a desire to become independent from Britain. At one time Canada was nothing more than a British colony and the only pride felt by Canadian residents was the pride in being a British subject. Over time and with the guidance of Prime Ministers like Sir Wilfrid Laurier, this began to change and a distinct Canadian identity surfaced. Canadas Autonomy was not something debated on in parliament as an issue in itself, but rather something that came together as a complete picture because of other smaller acheivements and advancements: The Boer War was a British was fought in South Africa. It was purely an excuse for Britain to exert some military might and show the world that she was still the worlds greatest military power. Britain asked Canada for a contribution to the war effort. The Prime Minister at the time, Sir Wilfrid Laurier was an advocate for Canadian Nationalism and a French-Canadian. As a nationalist, Laurier saw no reason in sending Canadian troops into a war which was being fought despite the lack of any threat whatsoever from the South Africans. As a French-Canadian, Laurier shared the same disinclination to help the English as his French-speaking countrymen. He, the French-Canadians, English-speaking labourists, and the farmers of Canada all did not feel it was necessary to send any troops. The majority of Canadian citizens still felt a deep kinship with Britain however, and Laurier was forced to allow for a volunteer force to be trained and sent to South Africa. On arrival they would be the expense of Britain, and would serve under a British commander, but would be distinct Canadian units. As Canadas first expeditionary force they were ill-equipped and poorly trained and yet they still garnered a reputation as a respectable military outfit. The return home of the Boer Wars Canadian participants sparked the creation of four new organizations: the Army Service corps, the Army Medical corps, the Corps of Signals, and the Ordinance corps. Hesitation at being asked to participate in the Boer War served to distance Canada in Britain. Also, the volunteer force of roughly 1000 troops was less than Britain expected. Military service in the Boer War left Canada with a stronger, more able military and the experience of overseas combat, preparation for when Canada might actu ally have to defend itself. The early 20th century affair of the Alaska Boundary Dispute between Canada and the United States was another part of the struggle for Canadian Autonomy. The tribunal, composed of three Americans, two Canadians, and an Englishman came to a four to two conclusion that the U.S. owned the rights to the Panhandle. The three Americans and the Brit voted for the U.S. and the two Canadians voted for Canada. Canada, feeling betrayed, had assumed that the British vote would for sure be cast for Canada. This was not the case as Britain thought little about the wants of the colony and, more of its need for American steel. Canada, a growing but still insignificant military power would have a place in the onslaught of World War I. Prime Minister Laurier didnt know this, still he knew that any country with coastline can make good use of a navy. Flanked with two great oceans, Canada had no navy. This folly was reasoned through a British patrol that guarded Canadian ports. Canada would have a navy though, for when Britain began a naval arms race with Germany, she recalled ships dispatched throughout the world. Where there hadnt been any, support sprouted for a Canadian navy. When an opportunity appeared, Laurier jumped. Britain asked Canada for thirty million dollars to aid in construction of new dreadnought ships. Laurier proposed that Canada receive two old British cruisers in return for the payment. Does Concentrated Acid or Diluted Acid React Faster? Plan I am going to carry out a reaction between Magnesium ribbon and Hydrochloric acid. The aim of this investigation is to work out which reacts faster, concentrated acid or diluted acid. I will judge if the reaction is fast or slow by observing the bubbles which occur during the reaction and also observe if the Magnesium has disappeared. Only the concentration of the acid will be changed - the Magnesium is a solid. Magnesium + Hydrochloric Acid Magnesium Chloride + Hydrogen Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) MgCl(aq) + H2 (g) There are four main factors which may affect rate of reaction. These are: - 1. Concentration 2. Temperature 3. Catalyst 4. Surface area CONCENTRATION- if the concentration of the acid is increased, the rate goes faster. In a concentrated acid there are more particles in it this means that there is a more chance of successful collisions occurring. If the acid was diluted, there are not many acid particles, which means that there is not much chance of an acid particle hitting a magnesium atom. At the start, there are plenty of Magnesium atoms and acid particles but they get used up during successful collisions. After, a time there a fewer Magnesium atoms and the acid is less concentrated so the reaction slows down. This graph shows this: - volume of hydrogen Time Diluted Acid Concentrated Acid = Acid particle = water molecule = Magnesiumatom TEMPERATURE - at low temperatures the particles of reacting substances don't have enough energy. So if the substances were heated this would mean the particles take in energy. This causes them to move faster and collide vigorously very often. Also making more successful collisions. Therefore the rate of reaction increases. CATALYST - using a catalyst can speed up reactions. If there is a catalyst in the reaction then the collision needs less energy in order to be successful. This results into more collisions becoming successful, so the reaction goes faster, catalysts are very important in industry. Reactions are speeded up at low temperatures, which means less fuel is needed so money is saved. SURFACE AREA - if the Magnesium had a large surface area the atoms in the outer layer will only collide with the acid particles but if the metal was powdered, many more atoms are exposed, so there is a greater chance of successful collisions. Michael Jackson Psychobiography
When I first registered for this class I wasnââ¬â¢t really expecting anything to happen. I thought I would be bored, probably not pay any attention, and do what I had to in order to pass so that I can graduate. However, throughout the semester, I found myself enchanted by some of the creativity most of the artist created. I never appreciated art before, and a part of me feels disappointed at that thought now, because I have learned to appreciate some of the emotional depth and the expression these artists showed in their work.I found myself going to the museum whenever I have time now just to walk around and look at some of the things that are there. I hadnââ¬â¢t realized how much art ties into many different aspects of history and even surprisingly psychology. For the most part, this class, though I havenââ¬â¢t really engaged in topics, have opened my eyes to art, and really see that there is actually more than just paint on a canvas, or there is more meaning to a sculpture than meets the eyes. DAVID GARIBALDI David Garibaldi probably is not the most widely known artist of our time. He is still fairly young, but I fell in love with his art.There are many famous living artists today that I could have talked about, but Garibaldi really captured my attention. So, it would not surprise me if many people did not know who David Garibaldi is or know of is his artwork. To be honest, I did not know who he was either had he never appeared on Americaââ¬â¢s Got Talent in this 2012 past season. He has this mixture to his style of work which includes visual and performing art. There is this uniqueness to how he creates his work pieces, and I found it astonishing at how fast he can get a single art piece done and still be able to draw a person in instantly.Garibaldi Paintings Some people like things they can relate to, possibly understand just to keep them interested, and I thought that some of his art expresses that. In the first page of this paper, some of the images that are displayed are all from David Garibaldi. If you have not noticed, most of the pieces I have chosen to display on the cover page ties people in with music and dance. In my own opinion, I think Garibaldi expresses in most of his art pieces a sense of equality and unity among different people in gender and race.Though he does paint different portraits, he focuses on drawing people that tie in with music, for example, musicians. He has paintings of women enjoying and creating music, which to me, tells me that women should not be afraid to express themselves. Most women in todayââ¬â¢s generation have trouble with self-esteem, so to me the paintings he has displaying women with the hair hiding the faces or, the image of a woman looking away gives the viewer a chance to let themselves think as if they were the image painted. If that were the case then that kind of style could encourage the viewer to step out of their shell.The image in the beginning of this paper the one that shows a group of people at a disco rink shows release from stress. The different styles, clothing, facial expressions show that people should go out, have fun and to just be yourself in public. He created this piece extremely fast, and not to mention he painted the portrait in way that no one could make out at first until he flipped the canvas around to reveal the competition of his painting. The colors embellished in this painting gave off a series of emotions. The purple, blue, white, and green around Christââ¬â¢s face and neckline resembled abuse .It told me the story of what he had to go through in order to fulfill Godââ¬â¢s will in sacrificing himself for mankind. The black around the eye area, frown, and the tilt of the head of Christ shows sadness, or perhaps reciting a prayer since the black covering the area where the eyes would be give an appearance that his eyes are closed. Painted on top of Christââ¬â¢s head was the crown of thorns with dashes of red to symbolize the blood, sweat and tears he shed for humanity. The image of the crown in the portrait displays a selfless act, one in which Christ had no qualms in wearing since he knew it was for the benefit of others.This portrait is a magnificent piece of art, because I honestly think that by the position Garibaldi painted Christ, the way he moved to create the piece shows such a strong passionate drive Garibaldi has in wanting to portray a deeper intimacy picture of Christ. The canvases which represent the series of colors, the use of musical influence really a dds to his exceptionality style and details with each stroke.
